In Bengaluru, officials from BBMP have reported that the flow of sewage into the Koramangala stormwater drain has reduced significantly from 120 million litres per day to around 8 MLD after the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. However, residents and businesses near the drain claim that the foul odor persists and sewage-mixed water continues to flow. The K-100 project, with a budget of Rs 175 crore for redeveloping the drain infrastructure, covers a 9.2-km stretch from KR Market to Bellandur Lake and is set to be completed by the end of 2024. To prevent sewage from entering the drain, BBMP has established a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant at Kumbaragundi and installed concrete rings and plants along the rajakaluve for natural purification. Additionally, BWSSB is constructing a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar to further prevent sewage discharge. Retaining walls, bridges, lighting, landscaping, and other improvements have also been completed, along with the construction of service roads and pipelines to manage rainwater. The BBMP initiated this project in 2021 with the goal of improving water quality and drainage systems in the area.To finish it by 2023, but it subsequently failed to meet multiple deadlines.
